Roots is seeing its first days! The main function of Roots is essentially to act as a bridge, connecting those living in North America to those living in Zimbabwe. We work directly with Our Neighbours Ministry in Zimbabwe, Africa, in the city of Bulawayo. Over the recent years, Zimbabwe has been on a tremulous journey. Once known as the "bread basket of Southern Africa," exporting food to the surrounding countries, Zimbabwe recently went through a time of devastating economic challenges, not having enough food to feed even its own population. Despite political instability, the people have repeatedly shown extreme resilience, overcoming difficulties, and continuing to radiate joy in every day circumstances.
Roots hopes to resemble the Zimbabwean characteristics of extending hospitality and sharing love with those we seek to serve. By partnering with Our Neighbours, a local interdenominational Christian non-profit organization, we see first hand how people are being empowered and restored. While Our Neighbours is involved in several instrumental areas in Bulawayo, Roots focuses primarily on assisting the children and their families through an area of the organization called Lighthouse Christian Academy.

Lighthouse Christian Academy was formed as a response to the children at Our Neighbours' North End Home and their need for a place to receive an education. Due to the varying situations of each child, it seemed unfit to place them in mainstream schooling simply due to how much classroom time they missed because of their circumstances. A home-based school program was then developed to meet this need. Through the assistance of Morningstar School in Bulawayo and a partnership with EdGE foundation Australia, LCA began running the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) schooling curriculum for this class of students in 2010. In March 2012, the school felt equipped to grow. Another 13 children received scholarships to attend LCA, making a total of 23 students! For some of these kids, it was the first formal schooling they had ever received. We are regularly coming into contact with other children in similar circumstances in Bulawayo and the surrounding areas and therefore hope to continue growing. We invite you to join us to make this possible.
Roots facilitates partnerships with individuals, families, churches, and businesses in North America to offer support for the Lighthouse Christian Academy students and where possible, their families.
